You may request a renewal for an item borrowed from another library through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). The library that owns the item will decide whether or not to grant the renewal. An item usually cannot be renewed more than twice.

There are two ways to request renewals:

1. Sign in to your LibSearch Library account

  • Find the item under My Loans. Click on the Renew link next to the item you would like to renew. (Items borrowed from other libraries will have the Call Number: BUL Borrowing.)

  • You will see one of the following messages:

    • The renew request will be handled by the appropriate library staff - Your renewal request was sent to the Bethel ILL staff, and they will contact the lending library to request a renewal. You will get an email response, usually within 2-3 days, to let you know if the item was renewed. You may keep the item until you get a response.

    • Renew request has been sent to resource sharing lender and is pending approval - Your renewal request was sent directly to the lending library. You will get an immediate response to let you know if the item was renewed.

    • Renewal not allowed - The lending library does not allow renewals or the item has already been renewed. Contact the Bethel ILL staff at illoan@bethel.edu for assistance.

  • After requesting renewals, refresh the page to see the current status of the loans. Items that were renewed immediately will have the new due date. Items that may take a day or two to process will have a "Pending Approval" status.

2. Contact the Interlibrary Loan department directly.

  • Phone 651.635.8797
  • Email illoan@bethel.edu.
  • Let them know your name and the title of the item. You will receive an email letting you know whether or not the renewal was granted, usually within 2-3 days.
